Setha

The woman who started again

Setha was born into a poor family and spent her whole life working for something better. This homestay is her second attempt at that dream — and the first one is where our name comes from.

  1. 2018

Setha opens her own restaurant, About The World. She cooks every plate herself. Guests come for the food and stay for her laughter.

  2. 2020

COVID closes the doors overnight. The income disappears. In the middle of it, her marriage ends too — leaving her alone, raising her youngest child while putting two more through university.

  3. 2025

She refuses to break. With what was left, she opens this homestay and starts cooking for travellers the way she once cooked for a full restaurant — welcoming strangers the way she wished someone had welcomed her.

  4. Today

Now in our second year, with travellers arriving from all over the world — many of whom keep in touch long after they leave.

“Guests arrive as visitors and leave as family.”

Restaurant

Cooked by someone who ran her own restaurant

Open to everyone — not only our guests

Setha spent years running About The World, her own restaurant in Battambang, before she opened this homestay. That kitchen is still here — just smaller, and in a garden.

We cook Khmer food with fruit and vegetables from our own garden. There's no printed menu — we're small, so when you arrive we'll tell you what's good that day. Vegetarian and vegan guests are always welcome.

You don't have to be staying here to eat with us. Anyone in Battambang is welcome for dinner, at the same prices our guests pay. Come a little early and sit by the pond while the light goes down.

  • Dinner 5:30pm – 8:30pm
  • Breakfast 6am – 10am, free for guests
  • Arrive early for the garden view

Jeremy N.

“Setha takes great care of her guests and is very warm and personal… the portions are generous.”
